Lord knows that losing heat as the weather changes is one of the last things that you want to deal with!

Scheduling an annual maintenance inspection gives you a number of benefits. Firstly, it can reduce your heating costs! This system checkup also ensures a safer operation. It also reduces the likelihood of unnecessary/unexpected costly repairs and extend your system’s longevity. Our technician will make the necessary adjustments and/or repairs to bring your system up to maximum efficiency during operation.
What’s Involved in a Boiler or Radiator System Checkup?
There are a few items your technician will address in a home radiator/boiler system checkup. These include:
- Proper combustion
- Proper ventilation
- Thermostat calibration
- Pressure control
- Condition of your glass gauge
- Burner operation and safety
Yes, you should have an annual hot water radiator system inspection. But you should also make your own effort to care for your system in the interim. In doing so, you can really make a difference in your system’s efficiency. Not to mention it’s maintenance costs over the long term.
Flushing Your Boiler
One of the most important things you can do on your own is to regularly flush your boiler. A boiler heats your home by constantly moving water through a system of steel pipes, radiators and a cast iron boiler. However, the eventual result of this interaction will be oxidation and rusting. By flushing your system regularly, you can reduce rust and keep your system water clean. Most importantly, it will make your boiler easier to heat! It is especially important to flush the “low water safety” to make sure it is free and not clogged!

Water Replacement
Remember, water can be lost through various vents during regular operation. And eventually this water must be replaced. If you do this yourself, you should take care to watch the glass gauge. This will ensure that you don’t overfill the system. If you have to replace water too frequently, this can be a sign of a more serious problem. However, many of the systems these days have what is known as an automatic water feeder. An automatic water feeder will take care of this process for you. You should check to see what kind of system you have. And how old it might be.
You should also visually inspect your system every so often. Inspect your shut off valves. Check your vents to ensure you’re not losing water in excess. If you do notice a problem, it’s time to consult a professional.
